The two most important features of Precision“s Ships Stairs are easy installation and no maintenance. The relative weight of these units compared to a steel unit makes it a breeze to install and as with the FL series ladders, its aluminum construction also makes it virtually maintenance free. A Ships Stair is an ideal solution for mezzanine access or, when combined with a Precision Roof Hatch, for roof access from interior of building.

Disappearing, Standard, and Ship Stairs: Specifying for Safety and Efficiency
The Precision Products
Precision offers a complete line of aluminum wall ladders custom fabricated to exact field measurements. Precision's ladder treads are a full 2-1/4″ in width and they are deeply serrated to maximize traction. These ladders have been thoroughly tested for strength, and are able to withstand a 1500# loading without failure. Individual treads are attached to siderails using 4 rivets rated at 1100 lbs. shear strength each, and have been tested to 3,000# without deformation. Additionally, all edges on the siderails and treads have been rounded to provide a more comfortable, powerful grip for the hands. Ladders in excess of 24′ length must be equipped with a personal fall arrest system, ladder safety system, cage, or well. Precision offers cages as well as landing platforms as required by OSHA 1910 Subpart D and other regulatory bodies in certain situations. Mill finish is standard.

LEED Benefits and Stats
Environmental Benefits of Using Aluminum Access Products
.➢ Aluminum extrusions make up the vast majority of the Precision Ladders product
line. These extrusions are made of 70% recycled aluminum.
➢ Aluminum will not rust so it requires no paint or finishes to protect against the elements.
➢ When a steel ladder rusts, it must eventually be replaced with another ladder which
means twice the environmental impact. (Not to mention, twice the cost!)
➢ Aluminum access products are usually less than half of the weight of steel ones, meaning
fewer resources to transport and install.
➢ No rust means, no harmful corrosion dripping from a rusted ladder.

The type of job the accessing product is going to be used for most often dictates which accessing device is used.
Use a Standard Stairs, or better known as Industrial Stairway, when the climber will be frequently carrying objects. Use a Ship Stair or Alternating Tread Stair when it is not feasible to use a Standard Stair, and you can provide a reason.
When specifying an Aluminum Access Ladder, whether on the interior or exterior of the building, remember to pay attention to any coping, cornices, or gutters along the roof line or pipes along the walls. OSHA code 1910.23(d)(2) requires a minimum of 7 inches of clear space behind the Fixed Ladder from the centerline of the rung to the nearest obstruction. Extended brackets are the solution.
